John Batterton is one of New Zealand's most experienced & successful charter boat Captains, having fished on a professional basis for over 32 years. He's fished extensively in overseas hot spots such as Kona, Cairns, and Madeira and explored the South Pacific waters including Vanuatu, Tonga and the Cook Islands and most recently, the blue marlin mecca that is the Cape Verde Islands. John is passionate about sportfishing and this shows in his dedication to his clients and the solid fishing results produced year after year. After 12 very successful years at the helm of Harlequin, and more recently with the stunning 57' Assegai "Amokura", John has delivered great fishing in both comfort and safety, always producing a memorable charter experience for his clients. Fishing on the new G&S "Hookin' Bull" is no exception: a beautiful custom built sportfisher with great crew and fishing to match.
John runs two, well qualified and very experienced deckhands; both are friendly and enthusiastic with extensive offshore crewing experience. With the talented crew of Hookin' Bull this team has notched up some great catches over the years - just check the record books. They're always at the top for tag & release billfish & achieve very consistent tournament results with numerous wins and places. Light tackle is a speciality with numerous current IGFA world records for striped marlin and blue marlin,along with swordfish, tuna and shark records. The crew are there to ensure that your trip is one to remember and needless to say, these guys will certainly look after you whilst onboard.
Whilst light tackle is a real speciality, all types of anglers are very much well catered for - from novices right through to light tackle record hunters.
